Aaron joined the Restart Scheme with Steps to Work in April 2024, after being out of work since August 2023. Aaron was unemployed due to health concerns and was finding it difficult to return to employment, despite having good experience in the warehouse sector.
Aaron was assigned Eunice from Steps to Work as his Job Coach. In their first meeting, Eunice explored career options with Aaron and, alongside his strong experience in warehousing, identified other potential opportunities for work within the security sector.
Aaron was eager to explore opportunities in security, as he was committed to finding work and was open to all advice from Eunice. While he was waiting for an opening in a SIA (Security Industry Authority) course, Aaron wanted to enhance his employability skills. After discussing with Eunice, he agreed to attend a 10-day Warehouse Gateway Training Program designed to support roles in the warehouse sector, which remained a strong option for Aaron.
Aaron attended the Warehouse Gateway Training Program, ran at Steps to Work by Gareth, an in-house Employability Trainer. Aaron took part in activities that included building interview skills, updating his CV, exploring how to increase his self-confidence, resilience, proactivity, self-awareness, and improving job searching and applications.
Following the completion of this training in July 2024, Aaron continued to apply for roles and in early September was notified of an opportunity for full-time warehouse work with Lidl by Eunice and Gareth – who both agreed he would be an excellent fit for the role.
Aaron attended a pre-screening session and subsequent phone interview. Thanks to the Restart Scheme, Aaron was successful and started a new warehouse role on the 15th of September! Eunice also helped to provide a bicycle for Aaron to commute to his new role, as due to the working hours public transport was unreliable.
