Abdi had been out of work since 2017, and as a result had lost confidence in his job search.
Upon joining the Restart Scheme in January 2023, one of the first things Abdi’s Job Coaches Hannah and Cathryn from Serco did was help and guide him to obtain the formal ID he needed to allow him to apply for roles during his job search. Through the support from Serco, Abdi not only received a new ID, but he also acquired a new smart phone which would allow him to accept calls and emails from employers following his job applications.
His Job Coaches also signed Abdi up for coaching sessions to improve his CV to make it more attractive to prospective employers. Abdi then learnt interview techniques and preparation to give him the best chance of securing a job.
After a month of joining the scheme, Abdi was offered a role at Starling Bank on a full-time contract working 37.5 hours a week.
Abdi said:
‘Cathryn and Hannah were a massive help in my journey to employment. Its daunting applying for jobs and the application process and Hannah cut this part out for me by liaising with the employer directly. Cathryn had so much confidence in me, and this gave me the confidence to start my new job. Hannah helped me with providing advice and guidance during the pre-screen and this helped prepare me for my interview’.
