Emma joined the Restart Scheme at our Cardiff office in January 2023, after never having worked before. She had an idea of her career aspirations, but with only GCSE qualifications and no work experience, the possibility of a career seemed unattainable.
Emma had tried applying for numerous jobs during her unemployment period but had consistent feedback about her lack of experience. Emma was referred onto a 2-week Work Experience Programme, organised by Serco at the Restart Scheme Cardiff office in July 2023. During the programme, she was given real, tangible experience in various Restart Scheme departments including social value, employer engagement and supply chain.
After completing the programme, Emma discovered her interest in administration after assisting the existing administrators in the office. A role became available for an Administrator Apprentice at the Restart Scheme Cardiff office in August 2023, and Emma promptly applied. She knew the office had a friendly work environment, was familiar with colleagues there and knew that there would be opportunities to progress. Emma was successful in her application and started the role that month!
Emma has faced many challenges in her personal life but has an excellent work ethic and has built lasting relationships with her colleagues. Emma’s work ethic has already been noticed by her manager and in April this year she was promoted to Supply Chain Coordinator, working directly with the Supply Chain Managers and partners.
