Steven’s health had been his biggest barrier to finding work. He believed he couldn’t work in most job roles due to having Emphysema, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and Asthma which caused him to get out of breath easily from having limited lung function.
Steven had extensive experience in factory production and forklift truck driving, but he was no longer able to do this type of job due to his health.
His Work Coach, Meilee Liu from Elite, worked with Steven to find the right role for him that took his health conditions into account. This was quite challenging as many of the job descriptions for retail and driving roles had an element of carrying goods on and off transportation, which Steven would struggle to do. Steven also needed an up-to-date CV, so Meilee spent time working with him on this first. His key strengths were that he was committed, reliable and good at time keeping.
Finding the right job for Steven was challenging but Meilee worked alongside her Engagement Officer and found the perfect job for Steven. After a 2-week trial run in the role, he was offered a permanent part-time job as a driver, dropping passengers to work, hospital and other appointments in his local area.
