As a full-time mum, Eve had been long-term unemployed for over eight years due to her childcare responsibilities.
At the first meeting, Eve’s Job Coach James from Pathway Group identified from her CV that she had work experience and transferrable skills from previous jobs, mainly in the food and drink sector. Encouraging a more proactive approach from Eve, James suggested she printed out multiple copies of her CV and hand them out to local cafes and pubs. He also encouraged Eve to attend local jobs fairs and renew her food and hygiene certificate.
When James found out about a café job in Dudley, he encouraged her to apply, believing it would be a great fit and Eve would work well with the other staff. After handing in her CV at the café, she was given the opportunity of a 2-day trial.
This proved successful and Eve was offered a permanent 16-hour contract with the business and the potential for increased hours during busier periods in the summer months.
Since securing the role, James and Eve have kept in regular contact to make sure she is enjoying the job, has no concerns over the status of the job, and is reassured that support is there for her whenever required.
