Michael*, a mature individual who had been a bus driver in Handsworth for 18 years, was made redundant during the pandemic. With a stable job unexpectedly lost later in life his confidence suffered; something that was compounded by uncertainty in how to find a job in today’s online world.
Referred onto the Restart Scheme, his Job Coach at Business 2 Business recognised Michael had lost his motivation and needed pastoral and practical support to help him on his journey back into employment:
1st stop: Because Michael struggled with completing online application forms and felt unable to progress, his Job Coach ran sessions to help him position his experience using a strong CV and covering letter.
2nd stop: Then, to make sure Michael could see he was making progress, he attended an employability skills course to build his confidence and help him sell himself to employers in the Transport sector.
3rd stop: Several job search sessions were also conducted, which gave Michael the opportunity to apply for suitable roles with the help, guidance, and support of their Employment Coach.
4th stop: Now committed to making the most of the support on offer, Michael took part in mock interviews, which addressed areas where he needed to improve his technique.
Last stop: Throughout the journey Michael built his confidence and recently started a full-time role in the transport industry - and his employer has already verbally recognised Michael for going the extra mile!
