Jeanette accessed fully funded training with Skills Support for the Workforce and hasn’t looked back!

In spring 2017 Jeanette Young started a new role as Supervisor at Trenython Manor Resort: Luxury Hotel, Spa and Lodges in Cornwall. Having not completed any formal training for a while Jeanette was keen to develop her existing knowledge and gain valuable skills in leadership and management to support her in her new job. Jeanette got in touch with NfET who provide training solutions for the tourism, hospitality & leisure industries. NfET explained that Jeanette qualified for fully funded training through Skills Support for the Workforce (SSW) and undertook a Training Needs Analysis (TNA) with her.

Skills Support for the Workforce (SSW) is a programme developed to upskill employees within small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. They provide recognised accredited qualifications and bespoke training courses to enhance your employees’ skills, increase the competitiveness of your business and boost the local economy. NfET is part of Serco’s network of expert organisations chosen to deliver the SSW programme in partnership with Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP). SSW is co-financed by the European Social Fund and the Education and Skills Funding Agency.

After the TNA, Jeanette with the guidance of NfET decided a Level 3 Hospitality, Leadership and Supervision Award would be most beneficial. The training started the very next day and was run over a number of collaborative learning sessions.  The Award assisted her in learning new skills to help her develop in her role and help other members of the team.

Following the successful completion of the Award, additional information, advice and guidance was undertaken to discuss the options available.  NfET moved her on to a number of NVQ additional units which underpinned what she learnt in the classroom sessions and brought the knowledge obtained into the workplace.

Jeanette has wholeheartedly embraced the packages of training, which included a project on a customer service problem, which she presented to her fellow learners gaining feedback and then to the staff at Trenython Manor.

Jeanette says “I cannot believe how much I love learning.  The certificated training that I have undertaken has been fantastic.  I have learnt something new each session.  It has stretched me to think about the way I undertake my role and supervise others. NfET have got to know me over the past year, they understand and suggest next steps for me to continue to learn and develop, all training is in a collaborative manner and fun way.  I would not have any doubt about recommending anyone undertaking training.”

NfET says “Jeanette has been a pleasure to work with over the past year and we look forward to continuing to do so.  It has been amazing to see how Jeanette has grown in confidence undertaking everything in a positive and enthusiastic manner, which has had an impact within the workplace as well as on the collaborative packages of training.  The wealth of experience Jeanette has in the hospitality industry is now relating into certificated training and it is great to see and hear that she loves it.”

Claire Lacey-Taylor, Food and Beverage Manager from Trenython Manor added “Jeanette is an asset to the team at Trenython Manor the training that she has been undertaking have not only seen Jeanette grow in confidence but have been invaluable to the business being able to decimate information to the rest of the team.  We would certainly recommend any tourism, hospitality or leisure business to see if they qualify for fully funded training through Skills Support for the Workforce (SSW) to help develop staff and build your business.”
