Karrina was 18 years old and unemployed and was told that she couldn’t live with her mother anymore. Joining the Restart Scheme, Karrina was assigned Protus Cheyip from Ingeus as her Job Coach. After their first meeting and learning about Karrina’s situation, Protus decided to refer her to Holte Housing. Holte Housing are a charity who assist in the provision of housing, education and training for those in hardship.
Holte Housing connected Karrina with Holly Spencer who helped her find accommodation in Handsworth. Holly also supported Karrina with other help including UC sign ups, job searching, creating a CV, as well as building up her confidence by being a support network and mentor. Karrina said that since being referred to Holte Housing, she has improved her social skills and is now feeling more confident.
Her confidence boost has improved to a level where she was comfortable moving into a shared living space. Currently, she is sharing a house with four others.
Protus has been guiding Karrina in her job hunt, as her long-term goal is to be self-employed. She hopes to emulate her father's career by repairing appliances and devices to restore them to working order.
Thanks to her experience with Holte Housing, Karrina now has ambitions of volunteering to help children and senior citizens, due to her personal experience of needing assistance. Her journey highlights the depth of resources offered by the Restart Scheme to support its participants – well done Karinna on your progress so far!
