The Serco Restart Scheme has been working with One Stop, a retail convenience business with over 900 shops, since July 2022. Serco Restart Scheme Employer Engagement Coordinator, Hannah Monaghan, met Campbell Hutchison, People Partner for One Stop, via a mutual connection.
Following Hannah and Campbell’s success across South Wales, One Stop approached Serco to roll out promotion of their vacancies to other Restart Scheme providers across England. Hannah and Campbell are now working together and have implemented a recruitment process across all 12 Restart Scheme providers in England.
Serco now share One Stop’s live vacancies to all Restart Scheme providers on a weekly basis. Each provider completes a monthly return detailing how many Participants have applied for the roles and how many have been successful. Prime Restart Scheme providers have responded positively to this opportunity and everyone is working together to support more Restart Scheme Participants into work at One Stop.
Hannah said: “One Stop are very supportive in wanting to help our Participants succeed. In Cardiff, we held a One Stop site tour so Participants could see first-hand what a ‘day in the life of a retail assistant’ looked like.
“One Stop also hold information sessions to provide Participants insight into the roles and responsibilities of the jobs that are available and help them with interview preparation. I have also presented to One Stop team managers to help them understand more about the Restart Scheme and answer any questions they have.
“Working with Campbell is great - we catch up weekly and he’s very proactive at improving current recruitment processes which we will amend if we need to try something different to support our candidates with the recruitment journey.”
Campbell said: ”I am thoroughly enjoying the collaborative approach that the Restart Scheme and we (One Stop) have adopted and continue to foster. Between us, our passion translates into one of our leadership skills ‘Be Brave’ whereby we encourage our leaders to fail fast, share and adopt learnings and move on. Something that I see as key in the current climate.
“As well as recruiting for store staff, we have also incorporated our Distribution Centres into the recruitment process and have just successfully welcomed our first new colleague into this area via the Restart Scheme”.
