In August 2023, Matthew Peniket, Partnership Coordinator for the Serco Restart Scheme, partnered with Marie Matthews, Business Development Executive from Environmental Excellence Training and Development Ltd (EETD) in Oldbury, to organise Specialist Cleaning Training for Restart Scheme Participants.
The training took place over 2-weeks and covered a wide range of subjects. This included learning skills to enable safe and effective cleaning services. With staff shortages in the cleaning industry, the timing of the course was perfect. It meant that anyone who completed the course would be seeking employment in the cleaning industry when workers were most in demand. The cleaning roles were available across commercial, residential and public sector in Sandwell and Birmingham
With the Restart Scheme Participants upskilled, EETD arranged for them to be interviewed by local employer, Everyday Cleaning, who were looking for Cleaning Operatives and were struggling to find suitable people that were trained and able to do the roles.
From the partnership that was formed between Serco, EETD and Everyday Cleaning, Restart Scheme Participants were able to secure jobs with Everyday Cleaning.
Lianne Wright, Director from Everday Cleaning said:
We have successfully delivered our second training programme in January 2024 and hope to have more successful outcomes from this fantastic partnership in the future.
