Stephen joined the Restart Scheme in June 2023 and gained employment as a Trainee Bus Driver with Stagecoach in September 2023, with the ongoing support of his Employment Advisor Chloe Collins from Seetec Pluss.
Unfortunately, during his probation period, Stephen decided the role was not suited to him. Despite ongoing advice and guidance through in-work support, Stephen left the role and returned to the Restart Scheme.
Returning to the Restart Scheme, Stephen was assigned Lis Vale as his new Employment Advisor. While reviewing his CV and updating his action plan, Lis discussed Stephen’s career history. It was noted that he spoke very passionately about previous roles within the Security Industry. They explored why he no longer worked within this industry, and it mainly came down to renewal costs of his license. Exploring this further, it was clear that given the opportunity, it would be an industry he would really like to get back into.
Lis sourced a course running locally, and arranged funding via the Restart Scheme, which would enable Stephen to complete the relevant training and gain his SIA (Security Industry Authority) License. He jumped at the chance and completed this in December 2023, after an intensive 2 weeks of training. Stephen’s license was granted in January 2024, with the Restart Scheme funding the purchase of this.
Since obtaining his SIA License, Stephen has been completing intensive job search sessions as well as attending weekly job action groups (JAGS) with a targeted approach to Security roles. Stephen has been given tailored interview prep, and Lis has been on hand to support with applications and provide him with the tools to confidently approach conversations regarding his short time in his last role.
Stephen has managed to pick up ad-hoc security work as a Door Supervisor and is also waiting on an assessment date with a large local supermarket for a Security Guarding position. He continues to be supported by his Employment Advisor to find employment and is welcoming the opportunity to attend all ongoing training that will enhance his employability.
