Restart Scheme

Steven secures role through the Restart Scheme despite health condition

21st Oct 2024 Restart Scheme

Steven had been out of work for 18 months and had since been diagnosed with COPD (Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), causing breathing difficulties after having many years of experience in the construction sector. Steven was unsure of where his skills could now be utilised. Steven had previously held many construction qualifications which had now all expired. Steven was lacking in confidence due to his current situation.

Joining the Restart Scheme with Workpays, Steven was assigned Samantha Mascord as his Job Coach. Samantha provided Steven with CV advice, interviewing techniques, and transferrable skills. Steven participated in the My Plan for Jobs Programme facilitated by skills tutor Emma, which helped him to update his CV and refine his interview techniques.

Steven also attended job clubs where he learned how to look for appropriate job openings and fill out applications under Samantha's guidance. Drawing from his past experiences, Steven learned how to recognise and apply his transferrable skills and knowledge. Steven's confidence began to build, and he was assisted in obtaining his CSCS card.

After discussing new opportunities with Samantha, Steven was booked on to attend a traffic management course. After completing this, Steven gained employment through the supporting agency, where there is over 12 months of work. Well done Steven!

Steven said “I have had fantastic support from the Restart Scheme and cannot thank them enough for their support and guidance”.
