With experience in the Iraqi army and police force, as well as a UK security badge under his belt, Usman* was motivated to find work but he was struggling because he only spoke limited English.
His Job Coach, Alex, encouraged Usman to focus his job search on security companies that wanted a specialist skillset and didn't perceive English as a second language as a barrier to work. As Alex explains: “I was so impressed with Usman’s dedication to finding a job, this made me more motivated to help him.”
As a result of regular 1-1 sessions, Alex coached Usman on how best to search for a job in the UK so he had the tools and confidence to continue his job search in his own time.
In one of the sessions, they found a security company who was willing to see beyond Usman’s language barrier and could accommodate it. Needless to say, Alex is delighted with the outcome:
“He eventually found his dream job and I am so proud of him. I wish him all the best with his career.”
Alex is continuing to provide Usman with regular support to help him settle into his new role.
