Adult Skills for Work (ASW) was a programme which provided funded and part funded training aimed at helping adults in employment within Birmingham, Coventry, Dudley and Sandwell to improve their skills and improve their future through progression in their work, or by finding better paid employment.
Serco's Employment, Skills and Enterprise Business were selected to deliver the ASW programme on behalf of the West Midlands Combined Authority.
ASW was funded through the West Midlands Combined Authority Adult Education Budget. The overall aim of Adult Education Budget (AEB) funding was to engage West Midlands Combined Authority residents aged 19 and above and provide education and training to equip them with the skills both they and local employers need, enabling them ultimately to access or progress in work.
West Midlands Combined Authority identified the following priority sectors for training to target in their area:
The programme delivered basic level Maths and English qualifications, as well as vocational training, in a wide range of subjects tailored to individuals and employers’ needs.
Serco delivered the Adult Skills for Work programme through a carefully selected network of training providers.
