Melissa had not received training or education for many years, so she was hesitant when she was presented an opportunity to learn with Adult Skills for Work through her employer, an NHS Trust.
She was worried that she would find it difficult to get back into learning and complete the course she chose. However, she wanted to progress in her career journey, and she knew she had to do further training to gain skills and knowledge to continue to grow.
Melissa was reassured that she would receive the support she required from the training provider, and she felt that completing the course would open opportunities for her and allow her to build her confidence.
Melissa studied both remotely and face to face, receiving some one-to-one face to face sessions with her tutor.
Melissa achieved her Maths and English Level 2 qualifications which will allow her to pursue further education with the NHS Trust.
Melissa said “I feel like studying the qualification with Serco Education has been a lifeline and had I not completed the course, I do not think I would have been able to progress academically or in my career”
Melissa went on to enrol on to a Training Nursing Associates (TNA) course.
